2001
My yearly review and December
tradition,
May be somewhat more somber
in this year’s edition.
2001 is the benchmark time
we’ll remember.
Because of what happened that
day last September.
Nine months of ‘01 preceded
the date.
And fine times and good
health were served on my plate.
Can’t let ‘em diminish good
times and great grins.
For that is a way for the bad
guys to win!
We traveled for visits with
those who are dear.
And all of the trips made it
perfectly clear,
That jaunts on both coasts
and reunions with pals,
Made for fun times as we
traveled the miles.
I broke my ankle and was glad
for quick healing.
And was laid off in June and
was (happily) reeling!
With all the free time my
life has low stress.
For the earth shaking issues
there are to address.
Most summer weekends we were
camping* and gone.
As we drove our tent-trailer
hither and yon.
We camped by the ocean with
spectacular views,
In cathedrals of seaside and
driftwood our pews.
I tended to gardens; walked
Lilly and Dash.
And we hosted a tropical
summertime bash.
We flew to New York; saw the
tragedy site.
And took candy to heroes as
was only right.
This was a year of beginnings
and ends, weddings and births.
And through it all there was
kindness and mirth.
Sweet days and warm nights
spent with family and friends,
Saw me through 2001’s bumps,
losses and bends.
Most of the memories from this year of ‘01
Were times of light hearts,
fine times, and good fun.
As the New Year unfolds and
we count off the days.
Let each one be filled in
safe, loving ways.
May 2002 bring us peace and
kind cheer.
