We also had other construction done having to replace the wall of our laundry room for dry rot! A very unglamorous but expensive undertaking.

Lucia continues to love her garden and keeps it very beautiful. Gardening is her Zen work. I have to watch her though, she gets carried away with the pruning. While I was on a business trip she removed our bougainvillea. Don't blame her, though, it needed to be pruned all the time. She promised to plant another one in a big barrel instead. It is more manageable this way. (See the thick red bougainvillea flowers on the left?) Link here to see our house now.

Life in San Sebastian

East, west, home's best. --PROVERB

In last year's newsletter, I told you about our starting to remodel our kitchen, well, it's done! We actually started in November of 1997 and completed it in March 1998. We are very happy with it, especially the cozy and warm breakfast nook which Lucia and I built.

Luke and Lucy are getting old and geriatric. Lucy is pretty healthy, while Luke has a congestive heart failure problem. His heart muscles are weakening and can no longer pump out the fluids thus gets congested.

He is on diuretic medication and often coughs like an old man. At times, especially after a shower with me, you wouldn't know it as he runs at full speed through out the house and rolls over multiple times. We worry about him.

Billy is a BIG! He is also the great hunter. I don't have enough space to tell you the whole story, but he has brought in birds, lizards, potato bugs and lately rats into the house. Just let me say that the first rat fiasco cost us over $500. Before we caught it, it ate up all the hoses under our dishwasher. Don't know what to do about our hunter.

Patches, well...she's still ALIVE! She is 19 years old in 1999 and healthy as a cow and eats like a pig. Still skittish and as dainty as ever.

LUCIA - WOMAN OF THE LIGHTS

I continue to do my volunteer work as a docent for third graders at Hamilton School. I am teaching them about our environment. Check out www.gracespace.com/Hamilton for my class of 1997-98.

Joined Lucia for the AIDS Walk where she raised over $2K again in '98, then later on in the year we did The March for the Cure (our first time). We will be focusing most of our energy towards the "March" in 1999.

Working from home three days a week. A few presentations here and there, but have slowed down a bit on work-related travel. Yeah!

Work and vacations have kept me too busy to do much personal web stuff. In any case, I hope you enjoy the new 1998 Photo Album.
