A TASTE OF THE AEGEAN

Our Trip to Greece and Turkey, Summer 1999

On July 19, 1999 Lucia and I left for Greece and Turkey. This was a much-awaited vacation. The plan was to spend four days in Athens, tour Athens and the area and visit some islands close by. Later, we would embark the Club Med II for an Olivia Cruise of the Greek Isles, Kusadasi and Istanbul, Turkey. The sailing ship would leave from Pireus, Athens on July 24 at 9:00 p.m. We end the cruise in Istanbul where we would stay for two days.  We returned to San Francisco on August 3, 1999.

This is a scrap book and picture album of our trip. We hope you find it interesting. You will realize soon enough that we were very enthusiastic photographers. We shot our photos with my Digital Camera (Fujifilm MX-700) and my point and shoot, Minolta. We each took pictures with the two cameras. The majority of 35mm was Lucia's and I took the majority of the digital photos. (although you will not be able to tell) I have made annotations so it would be very much like sitting in our living room with us telling you about our trip. Better yet, you can leave and come back whenever you like.

Cannot determine if this "Evil Eye" is Greek or Turkish because it appeared in both places. In any case, it is supposed to keep you safe.

Both these books were great resources for this trip. Additionally, the internet was most useful in picking a hotel in Istanbul http://www.sarikonak.com Sari Konak is a lovely hotel in Sultanhamet and this web site has comments from customers from all over. Getting an insiders scoops on Greece from http://www.Greektravel.com as invaluable. I especially loved learning about the music. Although much of the information can be found in travel books, learning from individuals who has had recent experience put everything in context.
