It was very, very hot. In fact it got hotter as the days went on. We had to be prepared to go out during the day. We had to be careful what we wore, because perspiration was a given! Preparing for the heat included making sure we had bottled water, fans, spray bottle (when appropriate), hats, handkerchiefs or a bandana. Coca cola, an occasional iced coffee (a favorite in Greece) or a Mythos beer were a welcome pause for refreshment. Dinners were always late at night.

 Tools

The Parliament guard to the left and our survival tools top right.

We dashed from the National Gardens to take these pictures of the Parliament guards because it was even hotter with the reflection bouncing back from the hot cement. We took the shots and dashed back to our hotel, which was just catty corner from here. We could actually see these guards from our room. They perform some kind of choreographed march on a recurring basis.

At the National Gardens. The dried fruit and nut vendor did not appreciate that we took pleasure in the site of this pigeon enjoying treats carte blanche.

One night at the Plaka.

It's all Greek to me! The first night we had a difficult time finding anything because every sign used the Greek Alphabet, even if it was a Latin translation of a Greek word. So when the map is as tiny as this one, it took a magnifying glass to see it, let alone read it! We got over it quickly. We used our instincts instead.

For some reason it was difficult to get over our jet lag - both when we got there, then when we returned to the Bay Area. In between was fine.

I took a lot of wall and window shots with the digital camera. This is coming down from the Acropolis on the west side leading to the Agora then the Plaka.

This woman was standing by an icon shop below the Acropolis on the west side.
