PARTHENON
ATHENS |
The Parhenon is one of the world's most famous buildings. If you ever studied art, world history or humanities, you would have been lectured about how the Parthenon was commissioned by Perikles. It was built in 447 BC primarily to house the statue of Athena who was the patron and Goddess of the city. It appears to be bigger because the Doric columns are wider in the middle and are leaning inward while the foundation platform rises towards the center. The columns used in the Partenon are Doric. It must be a challenge to preserve this magnificent edifice and keep it standing for thousands of years.
